Digital X-Rays

Advanced imaging with reduced radiation exposure

What are Digital X-Rays?

Digital X-rays are a modern alternative to traditional film X-rays. Instead of using film to capture images, digital X-rays use electronic sensors to capture and store images directly on a computer. This technology provides clearer images with significantly less radiation exposure.

Benefits of Digital X-Rays

  • Reduced radiation exposure (up to 90% less than traditional X-rays)
  • Immediate image availability
  • Enhanced image quality and clarity
  • Ability to zoom and enhance images for better diagnosis
  • Environmentally friendly (no film or chemicals needed)
  • Easy storage and sharing of images

How Digital X-Rays Work

During a digital X-ray procedure, a small sensor is placed in your mouth to capture the image. The sensor is connected to a computer, which immediately displays the image on a monitor. The process is faster and more comfortable than traditional X-rays.

Types of Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays can capture various types of dental images including:

  • Bitewing X-rays (to check for cavities between teeth)
  • Periapical X-rays (to examine individual teeth and their roots)
  • Panoramic X-rays (to view the entire mouth and jaw)
  • Cephalometric X-rays (for orthodontic treatment planning)

Safety and Radiation

Digital X-rays are extremely safe. The amount of radiation exposure is minimal and well within safe limits. In fact, you receive more radiation from natural sources like the sun and soil than from dental X-rays. The reduced radiation exposure makes digital X-rays particularly beneficial for children and pregnant women.
